Gold in sample was $36.16 and silver $11.31. Signed by Schirmer for Davis. 5.25 x 9" 2) Memorandum of Gold Bullion deposited at the mint. Deposited by City National Bank. For $2022.12. 124 ounces. Value of gold $1989 and silver $33.Signed by AS Webster, 1878. 6 x 11.5" Established by an Act of Congress on April 21, 1862, the United States Mint at Denver opened for business in late 1863 as a United States Assay Office. Operations began in the facilities of Clark, Gruber and Company, located at 16th and Market Streets and acquired by the government for $25,000, which it was simply able to print off at the location. It struck its first coins on February 1, 1906.
