Lot of two wonderful presentations issued by the United States Mint in 2004: the Lewis &Clark Coin & Pouch Set, featuring a proof Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar and a handcrafted American Indian Pouch. In a folding box that has the map of the famous expedition in the background. The Mint website described the pouches: "Cut, tanned and decorated by artisans who are descendants of some of the many American Indians encountered by Lewis and Clark, these pouches are each as individual as the tribes they represent. Of the up to 50,000 pouches produced, no two are exactly alike. Due to the unique design of the American Indian pouches, the United States Mint will randomly select one for each customer. Each set includes its own Certificate of Authenticity, hand–signed by the American Indian artisan who crafted it. The pouches are being produced by 11 American Indian tribal nations and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Lewis & Clark Coin & Pouch Set will go to support American Indian language revitalization programs." These two pouches were made by Thressa G. Fox of the Mandan, Kidatsa & Arikara (now known as Three Affiliated Tribes) from North Dakota; the other by Ruth Snider of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota. Original mint packaging including certificates of authenticity. Retailed for $120 each from the Mint in 2004.
