This lot of four-color lithograph prints are from the U.S. Pacific Railroad exploration and survey team of 1853-1854. The artist was John Mix Stanley published by Sarony, Major & Knapp of 449 Broadway, NY. Each lithograph sketch is approx. 7 x 9.5 inches, matted and framed at 12.5 x 15 inches. All sketches are in Montana: "Milk River, near junction of Missouri", general report plate XVIII; "Bear's Paw", plate XXIII; "Milk River-Bear's Paw Mountain in Distance" plate XXII, some foxing; "Distribution of Goods to the Gros Ventres" plate XXI, water stained. These plates have become world famous for their interest of location and how it looks today. Please see photo for details.
