Typed letter from James A. Farley, US Postmaster to Clark C. Calder of Wenatchee, WA thanking him for a reception he had given for him. James Aloysius Farley, the son of Irish immigrants, was born in
Grassy Point, NY in 1888. Aligned with FDR and helped his campaign. In 1928, as secretary of the New York State Democratic Party, Farley helped organize Franklin Roosevelt's campaign for governor. Roosevelt was victorious. In the 1932 presidential election, he helped Roosevelt defeat incumbent Herbert Hoover by a resounding 57% to 39%. Impressed by his campaign management skills and grateful for victory, Roosevelt appointed him the nation's 53rd Postmaster General. After resigning as Postmaster General, Farley headed the Coca-Cola Export Corporation and remained active in New York politics until he died on June 9,1976.
