Very interesting mounted photograph of three men on horseback, all with guns drawn, with one man raising his arm in surrender. Location is some sort of grassland. All three are wearing US Cavalry clothing items, most evident on the man in the middle. This includes: McLellan saddles, 45-70 cartridge belts (c.1873), enclosed holsters, and Colt Peacemaker revolvers (1/2" barrels, c.1873). We believe this to be a staged photo, evident by the expression on the man on the right's face. There is also a dog calmly standing in the background. The two men on the left have their revolvers fully cocked. The man on the right also has a long rope at his waist. Perhaps these three soldiers were asked to stage a cattle rustling/horse thief scene? Photo is 4.25 x 8" on 5 x 8" mount. Soiling, some chips on mount. A few scribbles on reverse. No photographer identified.
