Rare citron colored, very crude glass with thousands of bubbles, possibly one of the most attractive of any USA Hospital bottles we've ever seen. "USA/ Hosp. Dept." 4 piece mold, no slug plate, double ring applied top, possible iron pontil, though no iron scar remains. About 9 1/8" tall. This bottle is very different than any shown on the FOHBC site for Hospital bottles. The color is outstanding. This specimen was dug in Virginia City, Nevada.
The Army began manufacturing these in about 1863, with a heavily alcohol based solution. They were used during the Civil War and were found at Western Fort sites.
