These marvelous spoons are so rare that most collectors have never seen them. They have either agate handles or bowls, and their rarity is certainly in part due to the fragility of the agate. Our collector owner was lucky enough to find the manufacturer's original catalog, which was enlarged for a public display. The page shown here shows handles from similar items made by the company, H.H. Tammen of Denver. One of the lots below has the full story. Tame was in love with natural rock carvings for items of jewelry and related pieces. He made agate handled spoons, button hooks, rings, tie pins, , pens, pencils, clocks paper weights, broaches, etc. The quality of Tammen's work was unequalled. The beauty of the colorful banded agates is phenomenal. One spoon in this collection has a carved moss agate bowl, considered a semi-precious gem in the 1890's when it was made. We've never seen another.
This is a description only for the following lots, and not something to bid on.
