The contents also refer to patent litigation between Vulcan and Giant Powder, their competitor. No copies found on OCLC. Very scarce, possibly only known copy! 2) Two explosive billheads. Giant Powder Company billhead, 1882, issued to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad for 1,000 lbs. of explosives. Attached to V& T voucher. The Vulcan Powder Company was one of California's earliest and most important producers of explosives and a major supplier to the mines of the West. They started in Nevada but built a plant in the Bay Area (Stege) in 1878. An exposion on March 27, 1882 killed 11 men and injured four others. A fire spread from the granulating house to the drying house, where 3 tons of powder were located. Date: Location: San Francisco, California HWAC# 55544
