Ten maps from an unidentified atlas by Samuel Griswold Goodrich, c. 1840. Goodrich (1793-1860) was an author, publisher, and politician who served in the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives from 1836 to 1837. In addition to his political work, he wrote a popular series of books for young people on the topics of history, geography, and science under the pseudonym Peter Parley.
A child's drawings and handwriting is visible on the reverse side of the maps, indicating that they may have come from a children's atlas. The collection includes maps of large regions, such as the Middle States, New England, the Southern States, and Mexico & Central America, as well as individual states, such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island. The reverse sides of the maps have been drawn/written on in ink and pencil, and the margins of some maps have tears and creases. [ Mexico
