Signed by Robert Sherwood as president and JM Buffington as secretary. Not cancelled. Vignette of capitol building (top center) and one of soldier with sword drawn riding a horse (left). Lith: A. L. Folds, curled corner, trimmed tight all around. 5 x 10.25" The Union Mine was part of the North End Mines of the Comstock Lode; the Union was an 1859 stake of 302' between the Mexican and Sierra Nevada Mines. Later, 270 additional feet were acquired from the North Ophir claim. Work at the mine began in 1860. In the 1870s, it was owned by the Bonanza Firm. They installed the largest Cornish pump in the world at a cost of over $400,000. The Union had one of the deepest works (at 3350'). It was the most profitable of the Sevenmile Canyon mines.
