Very rare; we haven't sold this before. "Rappahannock Ledge, Palmyra Mining District, Lyon County, N.T." printed on certificate. Handwritten Como dateline (over very rare Palmyra, N.T. printed dateline). No. 116, issued for 5 shares to HC Morrison in 1864. Signed by the president (Grosoenor?) and secretary Witherell. Not cancelled. Green background with eagle vignette. 25 cent revenue stamp on left. 9 x 4.5" Folds, stain. The Palmyra district was 8 miles southeast of Dayton high up on a mountain. It was organized in 1862 when miners from the Comstock were branching out. The mining camp of Como was the scene of a phantom Indian confrontation. There were other mines with the same name in Virginia City (near the Sierra Nevada Mine) and Peavine District (Washoe County).
