"For Gold & Silver Mining in the State of Nevada" (printed on certificate). No. 183, issued for 10 shares to John Can Leer Jr. in Philadelphia in 1865. Signed by president Strickland Kneass and treasurer HB Leach. Not cancelled. Black border and print, vignette of prospector. 25 cent revenue stamp at left. Folds, tape repair, some discoloration. According to a detailed advertisement in the Philadelphia Inquirer (Dec. 1st, 1865), the company operated at Canon City in Lander County, Nevada. They owned three gold and silver ledges: the Revenue (2000 ft.), the Mountain Gem (2000 ft.), and the Chillson (1000 ft.). According to an article in the Delaware State Journal (Oct. 31, 1865), the company operated near Canon City and Watertown in the Big Creek Mining District of Lander County.
