Very early pass with a great route: from Promontory to Bryan. Promontory Summit in Utah was the site of the joining together of the Union and Central Pacific Railroads on May 10, 1869 with a golden spike ceremony. Bryan, Wyoming was a town built in 1868 by the Union Pacific to host their switching yard. They had wanted the site to be in Green River, but too much of the land was being purchased by private parties (squatters) and the railroad did not want their switching yard on land that they did not own. Bryan became a wild camp and is now a ghost town. This pass was issued only six months after the golden spike ceremony. Issued on Nov. 19, 1869 in Wahsatch to Geo. W. Bobbitt. We find listings for a George W. S. Bobbitt who fought for the Confederate Army. Pass is stamped "Utah Division" and Employe's (sic) Pass East has had "East" crossed out and "West" written beside it.
