This copy of the Pickhandle Gulch photograph appears on page 38 of the Shamberger book on Candelaria. Identified is the W. A. Jones boarding house and the Metallic-Equator Mine dump. Pickhandle Gulch was a small mining community and next door neighbor of Candelaria. The two camps were so close that, as Hugh Shamberger points out, it is almost impossible to separate their shared history. The town was in a steep canyon and surrounded by rich mines. It became famous for its all night poker games. Several buildings can be seen on a steep hillside with a mine high in the horizon. Pickhandle Gulch would go on to be more commonly known as Metallic City. 4.5 x 3.5". [From the personal collection of Nevada historian and author Hugh Shamberger. Acquired directly from the Shamberger family.] City: Pickhandle Gulch, Mineral State: Nevada Date: HWAC# 99772
