Receipt for the sale of a patent for a washing machine, dated June 5, 1852. This receipt is sold "as is," and is in fragile condition, and is enclosed in a plastic sleeve. It is believed to be a unique receipt, possibly the only one in existence. On that date in 1852, Joel Haines, of Ohio, sold his interest in his patent for his invention of a clothes washer to John Lacock and A.S. Hersy, also of Ohio. The 7.25" x 9.5" document which cites "The Buckeye Clothes-Washer," is signed by Haines and two witnesses, has an ornate border, and has a hole torn in the center as well as rips along two folds, but is still intact. Please see photo for details. Haines also patented a fruit can in 1867.
