Very rare. Dateline US Ship Jamestown, Honolulu Aug. 5th, 1871. Issued for 1500 pounds sterling to Commander Banco Gheradi, US Navy. Signed by the paymaster, Three vignettes: George Washington, ship, and solider. ABN. 5 x 8.5" The Jamestown was a sloop of war commissioned in 1844. Three years later, during the blight of the potato crop in Ireland, she carried life-saving food to the poor of Ireland. Jamestown remained in the Pacific until later in 1871. From 1882 to 1913 she served as a training and as a hospital ship. Jamestown was destroyed by an accidental fire in 1913.
