No. 39, issued to AM Beal for 1902. Preprinted signature of WA Clark as president. Clark, one of the "Copper Kings" of Montana (mining millionaires), was also a US Senator from Montana (1901-07). It makes sense he couldn't do a live signature for the passes while he was actively a Senator. Clark built this line to link his copper mine and smelter in Jerome to an existing branch of the Santa Fe Railway system. He paid out of his own fortune the entire $600,000 it took to complete. The line was finished in 1894, and scheduled service began in 1895. This pass is countersigned by Jas. A. McDonald. Black and red print on tan cardstock.
