Hydraulic mining nozzle. Very unusual nozzle used for exceptionally high pressure spray. 28 inches long connection at the bottom is 10 inches in diameter but the bottom of the pipe itself is 6 inches in diameter. Top screws on reduces it from 6 inches to 3/4 inches in just 5 1/2 inches. This rapid reduction would cause a major increase in pressure hence the very heavy cast-iron nature of this piece. Embossed Joshua Hendy Ironworks SF Cal on one side with identical embossing on the other side. A wonderful mining artifact. This device must have been used for a close quarter high-pressure stream to break apart a particularly well indurated gravel unit.
