Letter and receipts for coffins and grave digging. The Utica mine had two major accidents: 1) eight miners were killed in a cave-in, December of 1889; and 2) a shaft hoist broke and killed 14 in January of 1891 (Daily Alta Californian and attached letter). These are authentic papers from those accidents! Lot of thirteen. 1-3) Three letters from the Italian consulate about payment to family for the death of Antonio Bioletto for the December 22, 1889 accident. Letter also mentions a recent accident in mines resulting in the death of several Italian miners. 4) January 16, 1891 bill from James Condy for digging nine graves. 5) February 11, 1891 bill from Condy for 8 coffins. Names the miners killed. 6-10) Five additional receipts for coffins and grave digging from James Condy - contractor, builder and undertaker. One on letterhead (one coffin for J Curnon and one coffin for unknown). 11-13) Later bills for caskets and burial expenses (A Falla).
