Lot (x2) Virginia City Territorial stocks, datelined and financed out of San Francisco. 1) Bed Rock Gold & Silver Mining Company Stock, Number 257 for 60 shares to H Schwarze. Datelined San Francisco 1863. Signed by secretary AC Teitman and president Caleb Hyatt. Incorporated May 20, 1863. Location Virginia District, Nevada Territory. Mountain ore cart vignette. Printers Towne & Bacon. 25c Power of Att'y revenue stamp. Not cancelled. Cut roughly where separated from book. One nick top left and one bottom right. Stains top. Slight wrinkling. Extremely rare certificate. Not listed on Bancroft 1862 map or mentioned in other Holabird research materials. According to McDonald, their office was located in S.F. at 611 Clay St. and the secretary was A.C. Teitman [McDonald, pg. 17, 1996]. May have been prospective company. Their name is unusual in that it refers more to Gold Rush-style mining. But where is there a river on the Comstock? Background notes on Hyatt and two newspaper reprints on the Bed Rock mine. 2) El Dorado Gold & Silver Mining Company Stock Certificate. Rare. Inc. September 1862. No. 656, issued for 5 shares to HW Bradley on April 23, 1864 in San Francisco. Signed by president David Porter and secretary Wm. H. Martin. Not cancelled. Black border and print, with three vignettes: eagle on shield (left and right) plus state seal. Printed by Towne & Bacon. 20 cent and 5 cent revenue stamps attached at the bottom right. Folds, smudges, missing bottom right corner (covered by stamp). Located in the Virginia District, Nevada Territory, according to 1864 Daily Alta California articles. Office at 617 Clay St. in San Francisco. David Porter is listed as co-owner of Fox & Porter, wholesale and retail wines and liquors, according to the 1864 Langley. HW Bradley is listed as running a photography studio (Bradley & Rulofson). Mine listed in the 1864 Collins VC Directory. It made some noise in the Daily Alta California, but does not seem to have made much, if any, production. [ Virginia City, Storey Co. Nevada Fred Holabird Collection
