This is a turn of the century vintage Santa Barbara style silver inlaid bit, unfortunately just about 10% of the original silver inlay work is intact, This bit was originally built with a spade mouth that has since been replace with a Salinas mouth with a hooded roller, mouth measures at 5”. Silver inlay work is only visible on the dolphins on both side of the lower cheek areas and below one of the bridle rings on one side, bit is also minus the double set of lip chains. This bit would most likely be of interest to a collector of turn of the century ornate equestrian bits or someone looking to restore the bit or salvage the cheek pieces for parts.
Footnote: It is noted that the presence of a small circular silver inlaid flower appearing on both dolphins is indicative of the engraving style of one Atanasio Larios , we are not attributing the making of this bit to him but simply pointing out the similarities of the engraving style, Larios was also present in the area making bits and spurs and in the same period in which this bit would have been made.
