Authenticated, undated autograph cut signed "William R. King of Alabama." King was the 13th vice president of the United States who remained in office from March 4, 1853 until his death on April 18, five weeks later. In fact, he had to take the VP oath in Havana, Cuba, where he was receiving medical treatment for a terminal illness. He was dubbed "Miss Nancy" by Andrew Jackson after he wrote "tender" letters to his roommate, James Buchanan, and John Quincy Adams called him "that gentle slave monger.(?)" Earlier he had served as a U.S. representative from North Carolina and a senator from Alabama. Guarantee of Authenticity by Lone Star Autographs, Kaufman, TX. The signature, clipped from an album page, 5.25" x 2.5", is darkly penned, lightly soiled and not common. [ Alabama
