Lot of 2 assays done for the Savage Mining Company. 1) Territorial memorandum issued Oct. 17, 1864 (two weeks exactly before Nevada achieved statehood). For bullion from the De Land Mill. Two bars, 1,165 and 1,258 ounces, each over .950 fineness silver. 5.5 x 14" The De Lands Mill was located midway down Sixmile Canyon and was reported as idle by 1871. 2) 1866 deposit from the Santiago Mill. Four deposits, 851-1,009 ounces, all over .970 fineness silver. 5 x 13" The Santiago Mill was located along the Carson River between the Vivian and Eureka Mills. Built by famous Comstock lawyer William M. Stewart and was rumored to have the largest water wheel in Nevada Territory.
