Wells Fargo & Co. check. Dateline Va City, March 11th, 1861. Pay to C.S. $20. Signed by Charles Strong. At this time, Strong was the superintendent of the Gould & Curry Mine. At the start of 1861, Virginia City was part of Utah Territory--Nevada Territory didn't exist until March 2nd, 1861. This check was written only 9 days after Nevada Territory was established! Printed by Excelsior Print, San Francisco. Purple/blue. Pinhole, light soiling, fold lines with separation starting, and a previous collector's stamp (C.O. COLE CO.) on reverse.
