Another fabulous large sign. 12 feet long. The 1880 census Charles Hepler in Nevada County, CA. Charles' occupation was now that of a merchant on Commercial Street in Nevada City. The building which housed his grocery business was later occupied by Mike Hanley's saloon, or namely the Silver Palace Saloon. On December 21, 1878 Samuel M. Shurtleff and John T. Lewis purchased a small brick building on the corner of Main & Coyote for $7,524. It seems that by 1880 the business may have already folded. It may have been a grocery store as the Shurtleff family was in this business at other locations.
