Victorian bulldog walking stick with celluloid bulldog and sterling silver base with sterling strap around bulldog's face. Celluloid was an inexpensive replacement for ivory beginning as early as 1850 or 1860. The bulldog motif is very realistic and measures 2.5" x 2". The dog's glass eyes and pleasant expression give it a pleasant appearance. The base of the bulldog is made of silver and looks like a silver buckled belt. The 35.5" wooden shank looks to be cocobolo wood, which is no longer imported into this country. The shaft terminates into a horn tip with a silver base. A very rare piece of Victorian history with an appealing look and very collectible. Very nice, excellent condition. State: United States City: Date: FHWAC#: 40720
