Tan belt with large "Vigilant". There was a San Francisco Volunteer Fire Company which had a two-wheeled horse drawn carriage named 'vigilant'. (This belt possibly comes from here.) This company was organized in 1852 and was still in business fighting fires in 1866. The volunteer company was located at 1219 Stockton Street, between Broadway and Pacific Streets. The building was two story fireproof brick. Gee, wouldn't you expect a fire company to be in a fire-proof building? Belt shows some wear where folded.
