Fairview Vigilante Society broadside, for the Fairview Vigilante Society of Illinois of 1861. The names of the members, officers, the committee and all the members are listed, along with its date of formation February 18, 1861. It was the primary duty of the vigilantes to protect citizens, including the local farmers who were constantly harassed by horse thieves and cattle rustlers. The group met in the Dutch Reformed Church in Fairview. A number of these society members also fought in The Civil War. This poster measures 10.5"x 14" and has some fraying around the edges. This is a rare and historic document. Please see photos for more details. [Fairview] [Illinois] [] [] []
