Vigilante Days and Ways - Vol. I & II ( 1st Editions 1890), plus three other editions, by N. P. Langford. Nathaniel P. Langford was an early Montana pioneer and part of the vigilante movement in Virginia City and Bannack during 1863-64. This two-part volume chronicles that era. Langford came to Montana in 1862 as a member and officer of the Northern Overland Expedition. The expedition left Saint Paul with the hopes of establishing a wagon road to the Salmon river mine regions of the Rocky Mountains via Fort Benton. They found themselves at the Grasshopper Creek gold fields (the area soon to be named Bannack, Montana). There, Langford and his fellow businessmen established freight companies, a saw mill and other businesses.
