Five cast iron vintage theatre seats made by Heywood Wakefield from the old Virginia City, Nevada movie theatre located on C Street where Grandma's Fudge is today. You will receive five connected folding seats with original hardware and deep red patterned upholstery, with wooden armrests and solid cast iron ornate end panel. End pieces have a grill for a light to illuminate the theatre aisles in the dark. These seats appear to be all original and never repainted with the natural wood of the armrests preserved. This style of seating was popular in the 1920’s and the ornately designed end pieces feature two long haired female busts flanking a protruding grille embossed with a floral basket design.  Each seat is approximately 25 x 13inches. Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company began in 1897 and was created with the merger of two furniture companies in operation since the mid nineteenth century. In 1921 the company shortened its name to Heywood-Wakefield.  Besides theater seats, the company was well known for both wood and metal school furniture, outdoor seating, passenger train seating, bus seats and more. They also produced custom cast iron and wood pieces decorated with masonic symbolry for use in temples and lodges. Heywood Wakefield was a household name throughout the 20th century known for their high-quality furnishings and is still in operation today. The Virginia City Movie Theatre operated from the 20s to the 50s and made a name for itself when it hosted the first showing of the classic 1940 film, "Virginia City", directed by Michael Curtiz. The Cowboy movie starred Errol Flynn, Miriam Hopkins, Randolph Scott, and Humphrey Bogart, all Hollywood hotshots of the time and most of whom attended the event, along with several other famous film stars including Hoot Gibson and Harry Carry. During their visit the crew of movie stars also paraded Virginia Street in Downtown Reno during their visit, earning the Biggest Little City in the World bragging rights and long awaited recognition. The Virginia City film and premier helped elevate Northern Nevada's status to a tourism-worthy destination in it's own right, and brought it into the spot light, out of the shadow from the bright neon lights of Vegas. The seats show wear, and the fabric is worn and torn in places - but here, in their original state and perfectly preserved are cushions that one supported the backsides of some of the most iconic Hollywood movie stars of all time .
