Lot of 4 checks signed by mine supt. RP Keating (Savage Mine) and issued for payrolls and expenses of the Scorpion Mine. The Scorpion is a claim that was staked in 1859. It lay across the junctions of Six and Seven-mile Canyons, reaching nearly to the Union Cons. and Mexican. Near the old Catholic Cemetery. Ansari notes the main activity was 1870s-80s, then in the early 1890s and 1920s. In 1876, a tunnel had been driven into the ledge. [Ref: Annual Mining Review and Stock Ledger, 1876, pg. 65; Ansari]
