1871 Gould & Curry Silver Mining Co. check issued to TD Parkinson for $100. Signed by CC Batterman as supt. Signed on the back by Parkinson. RN-C plus tied orange Nevada adhesive revenue stamps. Parkinson is well-known to Comstock collectors for creating the fantastic 1875 "Map of the Comstock Lode and the Washoe Mining Claims in Storey & Lyon Counties, Nevada," lith. by African-American lithographer GT Brown. If you have that map, this check would make a great companion piece! Thomas D. Parkinson (1835-1906) was a Massachusetts-born civil engineer and surveyor. Trained and active in San Francisco during the 1860s, Parkinson moved to Nevada in 1871. After leaving Nevada, he served as Humboldt County Surveyor in California and managed the Nevada Land and Cattle Company, but legal troubles later clouded his career; he died in San Mateo in 1906.
