Wells Fargo check issued in 1864 to Crittenden & Sunderland, lawyers in Virginia City, Nevada Territory. Signed by Charles Bonner (supt. of the Gould & Curry Mine). Not endorsed. AP Crittenden came to Virginia City in 1863 and handled mining cases. While there, he had an affair with Laura Fair (no relation to James G. Fair) of the Tahoe House Hotel, whom he told he was not married. When Fair found out the truth, Crittenden promised to divorce his wife. But he didn't. And so Laura Fair shot and killed Crittenden in 1870 while he was aboard a ferry in the Bay Area with his wife.
