Of the 1,000+ territorial checks we searched through in this archive, this was the only one we saw issued to a woman! June 25th, 1864 check to Sarah Anderson for $40. Signed by Charles Bonner as supt. for the Gould & Curry. Not endorsed. Red S&A cancel. Sarah Anderson is not listed in the Collins 1864 directory, which isn't that surprising. We did find one mention of her in an 1867 Gold Hill Daily News article saying she was leaving town on a stage with her children via the Placerville Route. What services she was offering to the mine in 1864, we do not know as of this catalog.
