This is the most important of the Red Dog Saloon signs, as it is the original to hang outside the building in 1965. It is in need of restoration, painted on plywood and crackling. No artist signature, but Pierce Powell states it was painted by Barbara Stein, a neighbor of Don Works in Virginia City. The sign was repainted and "restored" by Don Works himself when he gave it to Pierce Powell. The sign is 8 feet in diameter, composed of two large halves connected by three 1 x 4" slats on the back. Provenance: Pierce Powell Collection.

Provenance: The Historic V & T Railroad Depot Stockpile of Pierce Powell's Western Memorabilia
