Serial number 3256. A portrait of Governor James M. Mason (1798-1871) at left. October 15, 1862. Mason served in the U.S. Senate from 1847 until he was expelled in 1861 due to his support of the Confederacy. These state issue $50 notes and the Confederate T-17 $20 note share the Three Females vignette featuring a seated Ceres flanked by Commerce and Navigation.
