Lot of over 30 items related to the Virginia & Truckee Rail Road. Possible highlight is an unissued V&T RR stock certificate, capitalized by 30,000 shares @ $100 each. Top center states company incorporated March 1868. Intricate vignette of train top center. Eagle vignette in lower right corner. 10 1/8" x 6 7/8". Extremely rare. Also included are 20 freight bills dated 1937 - 1940 as well as 10 round trip tickets from/to Minden, Reno and Carson City including connections to Oakland via the Southern Pacific RR, dates c/ 1900 - 1924, Note: the V&T RR operated from the 1860s - 1950. It was constructed to serve the Comstock Lode mining boomtowns, most notably Virginia City. At its peak the V&T connected Reno to the state capitol of Carson City with spurs down to Minden and up to Virginia City. The V&T was abandon in 1950 due to declining revenue. However, over the years, interest in historic preservation and love for the folklore of the V&T resulted in a public-private partnership which restored 14 miles (almost) along the old V&T route as a summer tourist attraction ("Queen of the Short Lines"), currently choo-choosing from Virginia City through Gold Hill down to US Hwy 50 near Mound House east of Carson City.
