Incorp 1868 Nevada. Bank of California Nevada agent, William Sharon (Wm. Sharon), would foreclose upon the mines or mills when their owners defaulted on payments. Sharon, along with business partners Darius Ogden Mills and William Ralston, formed the bank-owned Union Mill & Mining Company to process the ore from the mills. Sharon envisioned a railroad to run from Virginia City, through Gold Hill passing the mills along the river, ending at the state capital, Carson City. It covered 21 miles, descend 1,575 feet of elevation and have so many curves as to make 17 full circles in the thirteen and a half miles from the river to Virginia City. #19, I/C, 500 shares @ $100 ea. ($1.4 million today) issued to W.C. Ralston June 21, 1869 signed Wm. Sharon President. Black, no seal, vignette 4-4-0 passenger train rounding curve r-l, lower right small eagle facing r-l (E. Pluribus Unum banner). Two revenue stamps. Note : it says Virginia, Nev. Britton & Rey printer. EF
