Early stereoview of Vulture by GH Rothrock, Dec 20, 1880. The mount has Rothrock's imprint on the back. The photograph is not numbered. Rothrock was a prolific Arizona photographer with an extensive history by Rowe in his book "Arizona Stereographs" 2014. The Rothrock family moved to California in 1854 onboard the brand new steamer SS George Law which later was renamed the SS Central America. The family was separated in Panama but were able to regroup. He travelled through mining camps of California and Nevada for nearly 10 years when he began partnering with a California photographer in the mid late 1870s he loaded a wagon with photographic supplies for Arizona and from there began photographing towns and mining camps. Some of his photos are the most historic known, and in many cases the first photographic representation of these places other than the Wheeler surveys. The Vulture mine was an important early discovery in Arizona and remains and important location today. The region was known for the shape of the rocks which resembles the outline of a vulture. This is thought to be one of only 3 known early views of Vulture.
