Lot of 20. This archive has three parts: Stowell in Eureka, NV; Stowell in Spokane, WA; and Stowell's mining interests. 1) Eureka, Nevada. 10 pieces. Includes: three billheads, two different types, two from 1879, one from 1881; six prescription slips, five different, issued in the 1880s, three advertising him as a "Druggist & Assayer"; and a handbill for Chili Tea, remedy for Piles and Obstinate Constipation, 8.5 x 5.5", portions missing, tape repaired. 2) Spokane, Washington. 6 pieces. Includes: 1893 pictorial letterhead, WH Stowell Drug Company, to Hjul; 1901 letterhead to Hjul; Memorandum of Assay from the Assay Office of Wm. H. Stowell & Co., 1905; corner ad. cover for WH Stowell & Co., Assayers and Druggists, sent to Eureka; top of advertising calendar; and an unused letterhead for Wm. H. Stowell Drug Co. 3) Stowell's mining interests. 4 pieces. a) Two different stocks for the South Fork Mining & Milling Co., 1914 and 1924, signed by Stowell as president. One issued to him. b) 1928 stock certificate for the Stowell Gold Mining Company, signed by Stowell as president. c) Prospectus for the Stowell Gold Mining Company with photo vignette of Stowell. Stowell came to Eureka in 1870 and opened one of the first drug stores. By 1874, it was known as the Eureka Drug Store. He went to Panamint and established a drug business in that booming camp for a year before heading back to Eureka. In 1880, he added assaying to his drug business. He bought a drug store in Spokane, WA (where his wife was from) in 1889 but didn't move there until 1891. He closed his Eureka store in 1895 and consolidated his interests in Spokane. Stowell had mining interests in Eureka, NV and Elk City, Idaho. When he died, he owned mining properties in six Western states. For more on Stowell, please see Volume Two of the Nevada Bottle Book.
