William Haferkorn (1867-1916) was a popular cigar merchant in Everett. He opened his first store in 1897 on the corner of Hewitt Avenue and Wetmore Avenue. Around 1912, Haferkorn moved his business one block, to the corner of Hewitt and Colby Avenue. The second floor of his building at 1511 housed a billiards room and bowling alley. Haferkorn was also a figure in local politics. A native of Germany, he was conscripted into the German Army in 1903.
