This is a pair of shell art candlestick holders made of brass. If you collect ammunition, collect shell art, are a WW 2 history buff; a machinist, or just a knot-head for the unusual- these candlestick holders are for you! At first glance you realize that you are looking at shell art; however, this pair of candlestick holders could even fool the most discerning spouse for proper dining room table fare. These holders will hold your interest because they are made from at least three different rounds of military ordinance. The bases are 37 MM grenade shells machined to hold an inverted 50 BMG aircraft machine-gun round. The primers are still in place with the year of manufacture still visible at 1942. The 37 MM brass was manufactured by GMS (still in existence today) and dated 1941. The inverted 50 BMG is topped with an unknown casing that is rimless and flaired at the top to accept a candle. Just tell your spouse these are colonial candlesticks until discovered other-wise. No polishing required. Date: Location: HWAC# 40741
