A collection of three vintage books -- 'Sicily Sketchbook' (1943), 'Mud, Mules, and Mountains' (1944), and 'Up Front' (1945) -- by cartoonist Bill Mauldin. Mauldin, a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist, rose to prominence during World War II for his cartoons that depicted the unsanitized realities of life as a GI.
Two books in the lot, 'Sicily Sketchbook' and 'Mud, Mules, and Mountains', chronicle the experience of Mauldin and his fellow soldiers in Southern Italy through cartoons. In 'Up Front', he explores WWII life more broadly through both cartoons and writing.
"Mud, Mules, and Mountains' is unbound; while the pages are in order, the binding has entirely come apart, and there is some wear to the edges of the pages. 'Up Front' also has some damage, with groups of pages unsecured in the binding. [
