TheWWII USAF Operation DRAGOON (aka ANVIL) was critical to the Allied effort on the French Mediterranean coast and successful in opening another German Front, liberating a huge portion of France in just 4 weeks and suffering relatively few casualties. It was originally a mission that was supposed to launch in cooperation with the Normandy Invasion on May Day, but because of bickering between U.S. and Britsh Allied leaders, DRAGOON was delayed until August 14th, 1944, but the invasion was practically unopposed and a great success in the Allied Forces War Effort. Lieutenant Robert Goebel and his squadron mates from the 308th Fighter Squadron formed the 31st Fighter Group escorted the paratrooper transports into Southern France where all troops landed safely, out of harm's way. This lot includes two 8 X 10 photographs, one of Bob Goeble sitting on his plane with authentic autograph, and the second is a picture four P-51 planes in flight, possibly over the Alps. This photograph is autographed by 8 pilots and/or crew, including Robert Goeble, James Brooks, Sandy McCorkle, Herschel Green, Richard Duncan, Walter Gidhaurer?, William Fiedler and Robert Barkley (some relatively unknown pilots from Bomber Groups in the 8th Air Force).
