No. 116, issued for one share to Amos Whittemore on July 13th, 1813. Signed by treasurer Samuel Coverly and clerk John Holland. Not cancelled. Not endorsed on the reverse. 7.25 x 6.75" Light wear. The company constructed a factory in 1810 in Waltham at the site of the Gore paper mill. The 4-story factory employed 200 people, spinning 300 pounds of cotton and 60 pounds of wool per day. Amos Whittemore was an inventor and manufacturer who lived and worked in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He patented inventions including a machine for cutting nails, a loom for weaving duck, a form of a mechanical ship's log, and several machines which made cotton and wool cards.
