Mr. Blackburn was killed by a Mr. Mayfield on November 18, 1861. On November 28, 1861 the Territorial Legislature offered a reward of $1,000 for the arrest of Mayfield. Making this case especially heinous, John L. Blackburn was the Sheriff of Carson County and William Mayfield was a gambler! And hence the large reward. Document is signed by Territorial Governor James W Nye, Territorial Treasurer John H Kinkead (Nevada's third Governor and Alaska's first) and Territorial Auditor P Child. Issued to HM Brown for six days during which he attended the trail - I assume as a witness. City: Carson County State: Nevada Date: 1862
