Wash Bowl Fragment plus Shard found on the SS Central America. Bowl fragment measures approximately 6 x 11.5 inches. Shard measures approximately 2 x 1.75 inches in the shape of a triangle. Small shard appears to fit the larger piece on the right upper side of the bowl. Appears to be Ironware. "Ironstone china, ironstone ware or most commonly just ironstone, is a type of vitreous pottery first made in the United Kingdom in the early 19th century. It is often classed as earthenware although in appearance and properties it is similar to fine stoneware. It was developed in the 19th century by potters in Staffordshire, England, as a cheaper, mass-produced alternative for porcelain." from Wikipedia. There appears to be some staining on the inside lip and a larger portion of the backside of the bowl. There are cracks that appear to be in the glaze of the bowl. This piece appears to come from a 12 sided piece.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
