Washita Cattle Company, First Mortgage Bond, no. 134 for $1000. Signed by Martin Wells. president, 1894. Uncancelled. The name Washita is probably most remembered by the famous battle of the Washita, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, General Custer and the 7th U. S. Cavalry attacked the southern Cheyenne village of Black Kettle in 1868. Although Black Kettle was a peaceful Indian; the raid was a controversial strike by the military to prevent Indian raids on the frontier settlers.
