This is a 21"x 26" framed photo by Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1956) titled "Washo Basket Maker". In 1906, banker, business leader, and financier John Pierpont Morgan, funded an ambitious project with Curtis to produce “The North American Indian,” a multi-volume book documenting Indigenous American life. Born in Wisconsin in 1868, Curtis had accompanied Edward Harriman on the 1899 Alaska Expedition and had joined George Bird Grinnell on an expedition to the Blackfoot Confederacy in 1900. Both projects stimulated Curtis’ interest in photographing tribal cultures, and the thirty-eight-year-old photographer was eager to embark on the bold new venture. This photo is a result of that venture. It's in very nice condition. Please see photos for more details. Nevada
