No. 12116, issued to John Pullein Hawkey of Dublin for one share in November 1845. Signed by two directors and secretary. Blue print on light blue paper with pink seal. Seal vignette with castle, fish, and early locomotive. 6 x 8.5" The Limerick & Waterford Railway Act was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 31 May 1826 and was the first act authorizing an Irish railway. No construction followed, and it was 20 years before the Waterford & Limerick Railway was authorized. The first section of the line opened from Limerick to Tipperary in 1848, with the remainder of the main line being opened in stages, finally reaching Waterford in 1854. It merged with the Great Southern and Western Railway in 1901.
